Tax Tip: (August 2010)
Unacceptable Unemployment Insurance Wage Reporting
Effective October 1, 2010, the Colorado Unemployment Insurance Program will not accept any paper wage reports other than those submitted on Form UITR-1a, Unemployment Insurance Report of Workers' Wages (or Form UITR-1c, Unemployment Insurance Report of Workers' Wages, for seasonal employees). Failure to submit acceptable reports may result in a fine of up to $50 per report.
There are three acceptable methods for filing wage reports:
- Internet–Employers with 100 or fewer employees can submit their quarterly premium and wage reports via our secure Web site at https://secure.cdle.state.co.us/wagetax/.
This Web site is easy to use. It is the best option for organization with 100 or fewer employees.
- Electronic File Transfer–Employers can submit their quarterly wage reports via file transfer protocol. File transfer protocol is a standard method for exchanging file between computers and servers on the internet and is a secure electronic method for filing you wage report. For more information about using file transfer protocol to submit your wage reports, go to www.colorado.gov/cdle/uiftp.
This method is easy to use. It is the best option for organizations with more than 100 employees.
- Paper forms–We encourage employers to use one of the electronic options listed above, but you may use Form UITR-1a (or Form UITR-1c for seasonal employees) to submit your quarterly wage reports.
If you use an unacceptable format to file your wage report for the third quarter of 2010, it will be rejected.
